Website development cost in Kerala (2026): what you'll actually pay

Quotes for "a website" in Kerala run from ₹5,000 to well over ₹2 lakh. Here's what each price band really buys, what it costs to keep a site running, and how to compare quotes without getting burned.

Quick answer: In 2026, a template business website in Kerala typically costs ₹10,000–₹60,000, a custom-designed business site ₹25,000–₹2 lakh, an online store ₹40,000–₹3 lakh, and a web app or portal from about ₹60,000 upwards. Add ₹10,000–₹40,000 a year for hosting, maintenance and small edits.

The honest answer to "how much does a website cost?" is another question: what do you need the website to do? A five-page site that proves your business exists is a different product from one that ranks on Google, loads fast on a ₹12,000 Android phone and sends every enquiry straight to your WhatsApp. Both get quoted as "a website", which is why quotes vary so wildly.

Website cost in Kerala by type (2026)

These ranges come from published 2026 price guides by Kerala agencies and freelancers, cross-checked against each other. Treat them as planning ranges, not a rate card.

Website typeTypical cost (2026)Good for
Starter or landing page (1–5 pages, template)₹5,000–₹25,000A new business that needs a phone number, location and services online fast
Template business site (5–8 pages, WordPress or HTML)₹10,000–₹60,000Local service businesses: clinics, shops, contractors
Custom-designed business site with SEO foundations₹25,000–₹2,00,000Businesses that want to rank and convert, not just exist
WooCommerce or Shopify store₹40,000–₹3,00,000Selling products online with payments, inventory and delivery
Web app or portal (logins, bookings, dashboards)₹60,000–₹4,00,000+Staff portals, booking systems, customer accounts

Notice the overlap between rows. A ₹40,000 custom site from a careful developer can outperform a ₹1.5 lakh site built on a heavy theme. The price band tells you the effort involved, not the result.

What you're actually paying for

A professional website is a bundle of separate jobs. When you see them listed, quotes become much easier to compare:

  • Discovery and planning: understanding your customers, competitors and the pages you need.
  • Design: mobile and desktop layouts. A template means someone else made these decisions; custom design starts from what your visitors need to find.
  • Copywriting: the words on every page. Malayalam or Arabic versions cost extra.
  • Development: building the pages, the CMS (if any) and testing on real phones.
  • SEO foundations: page titles, meta descriptions, structured data, sitemap, and 301 redirects if you're replacing an old site.
  • Integrations: WhatsApp buttons, enquiry forms, payment gateways like Razorpay, booking tools, analytics.
  • Photos and video: often forgotten, often the thing that makes a site feel trustworthy.

A cheap quote usually skips planning, copy and SEO. That can be fine for a new business. It becomes expensive later when you want the site to rank or bring in leads, because most of it has to be redone.

Static HTML, WordPress or Shopify?

Static HTML (hand-coded)

Fastest to load, almost nothing to update or hack, and very cheap to host. The trade-off: content changes need a developer, so it suits businesses whose pages change a few times a year. Our own site is built this way.

WordPress

Lets your team edit pages and publish blogs themselves. It ranks well when built lean, but heavy page builders and plugin sprawl slow it down and need monthly updates to stay secure.

Shopify or WooCommerce

For selling online. Shopify is hosted and low-maintenance but carries a monthly plan plus app fees. Since Shopify Payments isn't available in India, stores use gateways like Razorpay, and you pay both the gateway fee and Shopify's third-party transaction fee. WooCommerce has no platform fee but needs more upkeep.

Yearly running costs most quotes leave out

CostTypical range
Domain (.com or .in)Roughly ₹800–₹1,500 a year
Hosting for a business site₹1,500–₹25,000 a year depending on type and traffic
Maintenance, backups and small edits₹10,000–₹40,000 a year for a typical business site
Premium plugins or Shopify appsVaries; often renewed yearly or billed monthly
GST on design and IT servicesUsually 18% on top of the quote

Red flags in a website quote

  • The domain or hosting is in the developer's name. You should own your domain, hosting, analytics and admin logins. Moving away later can take weeks if you don't.
  • "SEO included" with no detail. Ask exactly what: titles, schema, sitemap, Search Console setup, redirects.
  • No mention of mobile speed. Most of your visitors are on phones. Google's Core Web Vitals treat a page as good when its main content loads in 2.5 seconds or less.
  • Unlimited revisions for a very low price. Usually means a template with your logo swapped in.
  • No plan for enquiries. A form that emails one inbox, with no WhatsApp routing or tracking, leaks leads quietly.
  • Privacy left out. India's Digital Personal Data Protection Rules were notified in November 2025. Forms collecting names and phone numbers need a clear notice and consent.

What to put in your brief to get accurate quotes

Send every agency the same short brief and you'll get quotes you can actually compare:

  • What the site must achieve (calls, WhatsApp enquiries, bookings, online sales).
  • The pages you think you need, and whether you'll provide the text and photos.
  • Whether you need to edit content yourself.
  • Integrations: payments, booking, CRM, WhatsApp.
  • Languages, and whether you serve customers in the Gulf.
  • Your budget range. It helps a good agency recommend the right scope instead of guessing.

So what should a Kerala small business budget?

For most local service businesses, a well-planned 5–8 page site with real SEO foundations, fast mobile loading and WhatsApp enquiry capture sits comfortably in the ₹25,000–₹60,000 band, plus running costs. Go higher when the site needs to sell online, take bookings or compete for busy search terms. Go lower only if you just need to be findable and will upgrade later.

Whatever you spend, judge the site by what it brings in: enquiries, calls and sales. That's how we plan every website we build, whether it's for a business in Kochi, Thrissur or Trivandrum. If you also want the site to rank, see our SEO services.
