Mobile app development cost in India (2026): real prices by app type
One agency says ₹50,000, another says ₹15 lakh, for what sounds like the same app. Here's what actually drives the price, what each tier buys, and the running costs most quotes leave out.
App cost by complexity
| Complexity | What's in it | Typical cost | Timeline |
|---|---|---|---|
| Simple | 5–10 screens, little or no login, mostly content | ₹50,000–₹1,50,000 | 3–6 weeks |
| Business app | OTP login, backend, payments, push notifications, admin panel | ₹1,25,000–₹4,00,000 | 6–12 weeks |
| Complex | Live tracking, chat, several user roles, offline mode | ₹4,00,000–₹12,00,000 | 3–6 months |
| Enterprise | ERP or hospital system integration, SSO, audit logs | ₹10,00,000–₹50,00,000 | 6–12 months |
Published 2026 guides from Indian firms vary a lot. Some metro agencies put a mid-sized app at ₹8–25 lakh. The gap mostly comes from the hourly rate and from what's included, not from the app itself.
What common apps cost
| App type | Typical cost (both platforms) |
|---|---|
| Restaurant or café ordering | ₹1,50,000–₹4,00,000 |
| Clinic or salon booking | ₹1,50,000–₹5,00,000 |
| Gym or coaching membership | ₹1,50,000–₹4,50,000 |
| Single-seller ecommerce app | ₹2,50,000–₹8,00,000 |
| Food delivery (customer, restaurant and rider apps) | ₹10,00,000–₹17,00,000 for an MVP |
A food delivery platform costs several times more than a booking app because it's really three apps that must stay in sync in real time, not because it has more screens.
Why quotes differ so much
- Hourly rate: a freelancer at ₹500 an hour and a metro agency at ₹2,000–₹3,000 an hour can be quoting the same hours. Ask for the hour estimate behind every price.
- Scope: "login" can mean a single OTP screen or a full account system. Write down the screens and user roles before asking for prices.
- What's bundled: some quotes include design, testing, project management and store submission. Others are development only.
- The admin panel: the web dashboard your staff use every day is often a third of the backend work, and the most under-quoted part.
Flutter, React Native or native?
Cross-platform frameworks like Flutter and React Native build Android and iOS from one codebase and typically save 30–40% compared with two separate native apps. Since the vast majority of smartphones in India run Android, many Indian businesses launch on Android first and add iOS once the app proves itself. Native is worth the extra cost mainly for heavy graphics, AR or hardware-level features.
If your app is mainly content, forms or a catalogue and the budget is under about ₹1.5 lakh, a fast, well-built website or progressive web app often serves customers better than a cheap app.
Costs that arrive after launch
| Cost | Amount |
|---|---|
| Google Play developer account | $25 one-time |
| Apple Developer Program | $99 a year |
| Hosting and backend | From free tiers for small apps to ₹20,000+ a month for busy ones |
| Payment gateway (Razorpay standard) | 2% per transaction plus 18% GST on the fee |
| SMS / OTP | Paise per message, plus one-time DLT registration |
| Maintenance | About 15–20% of the build cost a year |
Maintenance isn't optional. Google Play and Apple raise their technical requirements every year, and apps that aren't updated get pulled from new users' search results or stop working on new phones.
Don't forget privacy compliance
If your app collects phone numbers or names, India's Digital Personal Data Protection Rules apply. They were notified in November 2025 with a phased rollout, and the core notice and consent obligations take effect in May 2027. Building consent and data-deletion flows in now is far cheaper than retrofitting them.
How to keep the cost down without a worse app
- Launch the one journey that earns money first, then add features.
- Go cross-platform unless there's a hardware reason not to.
- Use proven services for login, payments, OTP and notifications instead of building them.
- Fix the scope in writing, with screens and roles, before fixing the price.

Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to make an app in India?
In 2026 a simple app costs roughly ₹50,000 to ₹1.5 lakh, a typical business app with login, payments and an admin panel ₹1.25 lakh to ₹4 lakh at smaller agencies, and complex apps with real-time features ₹4 lakh to ₹12 lakh or more. Metro agencies often quote higher for the same scope.
How much does app maintenance cost per year?
Budget about 15 to 20 percent of the build cost each year for bug fixes, library updates and the Android and iOS compatibility work the app stores require. Hosting, SMS and payment fees are extra.
What are the Google Play and App Store fees?
Google Play charges a one-time $25 developer registration fee. The Apple Developer Program costs $99 a year.
Is Flutter cheaper than native app development?
Usually yes. Flutter and React Native build Android and iOS from one codebase and typically cost 30 to 40 percent less than two separate native apps, with lower maintenance too.
How long does it take to build a mobile app?
Simple apps take about 3 to 6 weeks, business apps 6 to 12 weeks, and complex apps 3 to 6 months. Store review and late content or approvals often add time.
Should I build an app or a website first?
If your budget is under about ₹1.5 lakh or the app would mainly show content, a catalogue or forms, a fast website or progressive web app usually delivers more. Build an app when customers need it often, or need features like reliable notifications, location or camera use.
